Occasional Inspection must be conducted in the event of modifications or repairs that may affect the seaworthiness of the ship or the maintenance of human life safety, regardless of the timing of Special Inspection or Intermediate Inspection. However, this excludes repairs that involve replacing the engine-related items with certified products (type-approved products) for the first time.
【Modification】 Replacement of property related to the engine (things that affect the performance of the engine)
【Modification】 Changes to the main parts of the engine (things that affect the performance of the engine)
【Repair】 Work on the main parts of the engine (things that may affect the performance of the engine)
【Repair】 Work to change or replace electrical circuits installed in dangerous areas
【Repair】 Repair that involve replacing items related to the engine fixed on a ship with ones of the same performance or type (excluding items that may affect the performance of the engine)
【Repair】 Work that requires complex or special skills or equipment
Examples of engines that require Occasional Inspection are summarized below. *As a general rule, you must have a thorough discussion with the ship inspector before starting any modification or repair. If you have any questions or concerns regarding individual procedures, please feel free to contact us.
◇ Engine-related items
◆ Main engine (excluding outboard engines that have been inspected for use on the ship and are being replaced because two or more are used alternately)
◆ Major auxiliary engine
◆ Boiler
◆ Exhaust turbine supercharger
◆ Internal combustion engine crankshaft
◆ Propeller and propeller shaft
◆ Propulsion shaft system clutches, fluid couplings, elastic couplings used for engines of 500 horsepower or more, and reversing gears and reducers
◇ Main parts of the engine (Main structures)
◆ Important parts of engine
・Internal combustion engine
《Crankshaft》
《Piston rod》
《Connecting rod》
《Cross head》
《Strut bolt》
《Connecting rod upper and lower bearing bolts》
《Cross head bolt》
《Main bearing bolt》
《Welded structure and base plate》
《Shaft couplings (both crankshafts and those on the output side)》
《Shaft couplings bolts (both crankshafts and output side)》
・Exhaust turbine supercharger
《Turbine rotor》
《Turbine blade》
《Fan wheel (including inducer)》
《Fan wheel shaft》
◆ Parts requiring water pressure testing
◆ Propulsion shaft system clutches, fluid couplings or elastic couplings
◆ Remote control device or automatic control device for the main engine, major auxiliary engine, and boiler
◆ For special engines, similar to those listed above
◇ Major auxiliary engine
◆ Generators other than emergency power sources
◆ Auxiliary engine that drives auxiliary equipment related to ship propulsion
